Smooth and sweet with a bit of a candied cocoa flavor. Competently mediocre— but, let’s face it: average chocolate milk is good.
Incredibly strong wafer-ish flavor that borders on ‘popcorn butter’— packed into one of the sweetest drinks you will ever consume. The onslaught of flavor will cause your mouth to salivate and your pancreas to spew insulin like a busted water main.
Smooth, sweet, and otherwise rather quotidian. A decent all-purpose chocolate milk that will satisfy in a pinch.
Possibly as average a chocolate milk in all respects that I’ve had thus far. It’s plainly identifiable as chocolate milk by all 5 senses and peppers the midsection of each subjective category.
Hides the fortification well and despite a noticeable density, it manages to deliver a natural-ish consistency, and creamy, balanced flavor that doesn’t skew too heavily in any particular direction. You could do a lot worse in the ‘recovery’ drink market from a taste standpoint.
Subtle and malty-- no red flags here. The packaging sets you up for ‘protein drink flavor’ but in truth, you receive a pretty normal chocolate milk; a welcome surprise.
A sharp sourness to the initial bouquet will almost certainly (negatively) bleed into your taste experience. There’s a definite ‘caramel’ flavor pursuit here, which is odd given the ‘fudge brownie’ moniker. The taste isn’t as offensive as the smell, and the texture is noticeably thinner than other Frijj products— overall, it’s more caramel than brownie, and the initial flavor mystery wears off for the better as you sip away.
Gorgeous aesthetics when poured out of the box (which might be the most generic-looking packaging I’ve yet seen!), but nothing more than a lightly sweet, mildly flavored, recognizably cocoa beverage. Simple from first look to first taste.
More of a milky feel than the Carrefour Choco Halfvol, and a different (mildly sour) cocoa flavor that does not set itself apart in any meaningful way from the legions of other chocolate milks mingling atop the bell curve.
Light and clean feel, but somewhat bland flavor. The texture is its best attribute, and the taste doesn’t drag it down much, just leaves you wishing for more punch.
Pleasant but average flavors and levels across the board, however it’s much less viscous than most chocolate milks. Easy to put down the entire 4-pack— and adding a straw option is a nice touch.
More sour flavor than cocoa, neither of which are particularly strong. The texture is smooth and milky, and easily drinkable.
Powdery feel, and very average in every other respect. It’s easily identifiable as chocolate milk— no real surprises or disappointments here.
Chalky, but fairly creamy. Unfortunately carries a modest sour undertone that is not one of dark chocolate, but one that approaches (but doesn't breach) the boozy zone. It’s a minor gripe, but noticeable when compared with several peers in one sitting.
Less sweetness and cream than the Original version, but the flavor doesn't suffer in proportion because the cocoa is allowed more of the limelight and it works well. This isn’t a product that will blow your tastebuds’ collective mind, but given the nutritional stats, this tastes about as good as you could hope.
Chalky, but still more milky than most other protein drinks out there. There’s a sharpness to the cocoa that feels just a tad off, but all things considered, it's a fairly decent tasting protein-enriched chocolate milk.
Noticeably different from the fresh version(s), despite identical ingredients and nutritional info. The shelf-stable version has a thicker texture, and a sour note that makes it taste less sweet and a tad more complex. I still prefer the fresh version as I feel the consistency is more true.
Somewhat of a candy-sweetness to the chocolate, but it's not terribly offensive. Notably salty, which helps balance the sweetness out, and slightly contrived texture that is almost milky, but just different enough to exude a processed feel— it feels like it's carrying more solute than it can reasonably hide.
Thick, yet smooth— and a sweet but authentic chocolate flavor. Lovers of ‘thick’ would enjoy this, but for my tastes it’s a bit too far on the emulsified end of the scale; the thickness is not warranted by the cream component.
Closer to pudding than chocolate milk, but the cocoa flavor is prominent and enjoyable throughout. The creaminess is also present, so the thickness does not seem entirely starch-driven. It’s flavorful and unfortunately (for me) super viscous— but if thickness is something you dig, sidle up to one of these.
